This show, <em>Shockheaded Peter</em> is a cabaret show (with puppets) based on a collection of horrifying German children’s stories by Heinrich Hoffmann. Martyn Jacques (he’s amazing), the lead falsetto and accordion player lived and trained in above a brothel in Soho (apparently). I was in Soho today. I love the Tiger Lillies. I love cabaret. Some of her songs really tread the line between comedy and tragedy. This is a nice song, but also… kind of bittersweet.</p> <p>I think it’s down to her subtlety as a performer, she’s excellent at picking out the nuances of the lines, and informing the gaps between the lines, which is almost where the performance lies. She “acts” through her songs, and creates this space outside of the song, that she fills with moment.
